I started my career back in 1973 at the age of 16 with Barclays Bank and did not leave there for 25 years. Worked for Travelex, the currency specialist, for another five years. My career involved designing, printing and physically moving travellers cheques and banknotes around the world.

I have been lucky enough to have had a career that I enjoyed immensely and have travelled the world with my career and met many people who have stayed forever friends.

I adopted two wonderful girls when they were 5 and 6 years old. That was a very different experience which evoked many different emotions. They are wonderful girls, now 26 and 27, so just waiting for the first grandchild now.

Very different to now working for Cancer Care Javea. But wow what an experience this last 8 years have been.

Being responsible for the two shops we have in Javea Park comes with many moments as you can imagine. We have a wonderful group of volunteers that turn out every day and work the mornings.

We see, on a daily basis, our customers who we all get to know well, with some becoming life long friends.

It’s a great place to volunteer. I am so glad someone suggested to me all those years ago that I should give it a go. It makes me feel good to think I am doing something to help others. So here’s to the next 8.
