Many years ago it was evident that there was little support for Cancer in the Costa Blanca Region.

Irene Ellis (now MBE) became the co-founder of the charity, having got together with a group of like-minded people with a commitment to get their idea off the ground.

With pure hard work and determination, in March 1998 the same group of people opened the Cancer Care Charity Centre in Javea.

The aims were to raise funds for Hospitals, Research, Patient Care and Individuals. The charity was overwhelmed by the response of the local community and those elsewhere, who supported them with donations.

We celebrated our 20th Anniversary in March 2018 and we held a fabulous dinner dance where it was nice to see so many of our volunteers, both current and past, enjoying the moment and sharing it with our wonderful sponsors and clients.  We were honoured to be presented with a plaque, on behalf of Mayor of Javea, Jose Chulvi, in recognition of the generous donations we have made and our contributions to the entire community.

Most of the monies came from fundraising and donations via the first shop – now commonly referred to as the Cancer Care Javea Shop. Such was its success, in November 2008 the charity opened a Boutique within a short walk away, offering customers a selection of designer labels and up-market brands of womenswear.

Living for today with hope for tomorrow

Cancer Care is set-up as an Association to comply with Spanish Law – Charity No. 8270 – Nif No. G53687992

We hold an annual AGM and successive committees have contributed widely to help administrate all aspects of the charity and ensuring it is well managed and operating within agreed policies, the law and budgets.

The Committee manages the charity in accordance with the statutes to fulfil its legal responsibilities and act in good faith and in the best interests of the Association. 100% of the monies raised through fund raising and donations go directly to Cancer Care Javea. The current President is Jayne Nuttall Blake.

Over a period of more than 20 years there have been many changes but we have recognised the continued need for more care, none of which would be possible without our dedicated team of over 60 volunteers. They work unselfishly in our shops, fund raising, counselling. translating, caring and understanding the needs of cancer sufferers and all those who are touched by it.

Since inception with the enthusiastic and generous support of the community, general public and businesses, Cancer Care has funded over one million euros for care and research throughout our region.
