Anemona – Rowing For Life

We are continually impressed with the good things ANEMONA do and felt this was a worthy project to help fund.

Thanks to all our volunteers raising funds through the shops and through generous donations from individuals and businesses, we have been able to provide them with 10,000 euros as a healthy head start.

Cancer Care Javea welcomed ANEMONA to present details of their new project – Rowing For Life. This activity currently takes place in the Bay of Benidorm in one of the Club Nautico boats following research and investigation into the benefits for breast cancer survivors in the sport of rowing.

Rowing is one of the most complete aquatic sports providing physical conditioning and muscle strengthening. It is a new idea that has been found to benefit those women who have gone through breast cancer. Anemona now wish to buy their own new boat to cater for the high demand and expand availability to help more survivors of breast cancer join in and benefit in their physical health and in the prevention and improvement of lymphedema (secondary complication of a mastectomy).

The rowing activity (initiation and maintenance) consists of a series of exercises that helps with the Lymphedema swelling, regains the muscle tone and, at the same time, creates an environment of companionship and friendship that allows them to share their doubts and fears. In short, it is about getting a better overall quality of life.

Furthermore, this sport decreases re-incidence because women gain physical resistance, which helps to improve their immune system, which is essential to combat the new onset of diseases.

Patients from any area will be welcomed to join the scheme and will be assessed and placed on a rota system.

Should you be interested in the scheme or wish to take part, please just call into one of our shops and ask to speak to one of the committee members, or write to us at cancercarejavea@outlook.com and we will pass you on to the ANEMONA team.
